ABOUT ME

My name’s Will Yates.

I’m a former teacher, current education researcher, and part-time writer, tutor and consultant.

Here are some of the things I do.

RESEARCH AND POLICY

I’ve just completed an MPhil in Education (Knowledge, Power and Politics) at the University of Cambridge (St John’s College). My research focused on the relationship between the availability and importance of cultural capital in the school curriculum. I now work in the Education team at Public First, a UK public affairs agency with a specialism in public opinion.

WRITING

In addition to my published work (which you can see more of on my Writing page), I have done analysis, copywriting and research for a variety of clients, including public sector consultancies, charities and schools.

ADMISSIONS TUITION

Following several years as a university admissions specialist in a London state school, I now work with Syzygy Global Education to support young people from across the globe in their applications to UK universities. I’ve previously helped students gain acceptance at Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, LSE, Bristol, Durham, Edinburgh and many more.

TUTORING

Alongside my work as a classroom English teacher, I’ve tutored students in GCSE English Language and Literature and A Level English Literature for the last five years. I have a track record of helping students achieve results well above national average grades and their own predicted grades.
